Did you know in Wales Red Kites were driven to near extinction but was saved thanks to one man and his dog?

Wales’ most iconic bird was once driven to near extinction. But thanks to the efforts of people like farmer Chris Powell , they are now a common sight once again in the Welsh countryside. In the early 1990’s, a pair of kites came to visit the farm to feed on rabbits caught by the farm dog, Jamie. One pair became two and thanks to Chris putting more and more food out, thousands of Kites now pass through every week!

Successful reintroduction projects have taken place across the UK and Wales remain a stronghold for these beautiful creatures.
