Our story started in 2015. For the first 5 years of our existence, we grew organically and became a profitable company with around 60 employees. Then, in September 2021, we raised $38 million in series A funding, led by Target Global and with participation from Partech Ventures and Avid Ventures. Since then we have doubled in size to 120 people and we want to double in size again this year, whilst expanding internationally.

Our client is growing, and we need a VP Engineer to execute our technology strategy and get our engineering team and our technology capabilities ready to scale.

Working side by side with the C-level you have the chance to create a sustainable growing path for a high performing engineering culture.

Responsibilities:

• You execute our technology strategy & roadmap (Vision) to engage our product strategy
• You report to the Chief Product & Technology Officer
• You will manage the overall cost of our client’s technology capabilities and Infrastructure, Cloud Operations & Security measurements
• You are responsible for the OKRs in the engineering department, enabling your teams to deliver continuously customer delight
• You will lead and develop a multi-discipline team of Architects and Engineers and provide day-to-day direction to ensure the team(s) are fully functional and high performing
• You create an organisational design regarding a team setup that is ready to scale on agile principles and enables multiple teams and locations
• You establish and maintain technical management disciplines and a technical roadmap that achieves a pragmatic balance between business process harmonisation, time-to-value, and innovation
• You are responsible to develop and implement technology standards that will engage your engineering team to deliver but also scale sustainably
• You oversee all necessary technology capabilities and its growth with interdependencies on our product strategy
• You feel comfortable to direct or have experience with the following technology stack: Ruby on Rails, ReactJS all on AWS
• You have experience with IT service management functions to provide high availability and continuous integration & deployment
• You will boost the recruiting process together with the C-level and our People department to build high performance teams
• You are able to work with distributed teams, but feel engaged in working in an exhilarating office environment in the middle of Berlin
• our tech stack is Ruby on Rails and React
• Work with engineers and/or product managers to maintain and ensure the effective implementation of team processes, prioritize backlog and create short-term and long-term goals, support the team in planning, and managing upcoming work items

Coaching & People management

• Manage a cross-disciplinary team of +40 engineers
   
  • Conduct regular 1:1s with direct reports to understand objectives and challenges
  • Provide continuous feedback, address underperformance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of team members
  • Act as a problem solver in the team and maximise team delivery quality, teamwork, and team productivity
  • Help for development and career growth and assign it to skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals

Hiring

• Work closely with the our recruiting team to hire high potential candidates
• Understand the staffing needs of the team and ensure it is set up for success
• Participate and help improve the hiring process
• Conduct technical interviews, or assign someone from the team as an interviewer instead

Strategy

• Collaborate closely with the product & engineering leadership
• Implement the agreed roadmap according to specifications and expectations
• Identify gaps in competency and opportunities to improve
• Communication with stakeholders to ensure that priorities are correctly aligned

Requirements

• You have 5+ years experience in a similar position in a fast-growing and fast-paced B2B SaaS company, ideally in an international setup
• Experience developing with Ruby on Rails and ReactJS
• Proficient with agile software development approaches, e.g. Kanban or SCRUM
• Experience with analysis of requirements — an ability to organize and maintain clear technical documentation
• Experience with spatial data processing, big data processing
• Experience with interviewing, on-boarding and coaching
• Organizational, analytical, and time management skills
• Strong risk management expertise and ability to escalate risks accordingly
• Must be an independent, self-driven leader who is able to motivate and inspire people, instill accountability and achieve results
• At least Upper-Intermediate spoken and written English, German is a benefit
• Exposure to SaaS business with continuous software delivery cycles, best in a B2B context
• B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent is preferred
• You are fluent in English. Fluency in german is a big plus
